First round pairings for men's regionals set


                Western Nebraska Community College’s Cougar Palace will be the site of the men’s Region IX Tournament which begins Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10 with first round action.
                First-round pairings for the tournament have been finalized over the weekend.
                WNCC, the South Sub-region top seed, will open play Friday night at 8 p.m. The Cougars enter the tournament with a 24-6 record and will face Northeast Community College, who enters with a 12-18 mark.
                Other first round contests on Friday include Otero Junior College (25-4) facing Gillette College (18-12) at 1 p.m., Miles Community College (24-6 and the North sub-region top seed) meets McCook Community College (15-15) at 3 p.m., and Casper College (22-8) facing Trinidad State Junior College (12-17) at 6 p.m.
First round continues on Saturday with four contests. The day starts with Sheridan College (24-6) meeting Eastern Wyoming College (12-18) at 1 p.m., Laramie County Community College (14-16) facing Western Wyoming Community College (22-8) at 3 p.m., Northeastern Junior College (17-12) meeting Central Wyoming (20-10) at 6 p.m., and Northwest Wyoming (22-8) meeting North Platte Community College (17-13) at 8 p.m.
Semi-finals are slated for Sunday followed by quarter-finals on Monday and the championship set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
If WNCC wins its opening game on Friday, they will play the winner of the Northwest Wyoming and North Platte contest on Sunday at 8 p.m.
Ticket prices for the tournament are $25 for a 5-day tournament pass, $7 for an adult day pass, $5 for a senior citizen day pass, $4 for students with an ID, and children under six are free.
All the tournament games will have live video on the internet through Big Time Small Town media. Video access can be connected through sports.wncc.net.
