WNCC softball team holds fundraiser for Scleroderma Foundation, bidding for player's special Scleroderma T-shirts now going on

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team will hold for the third straight year, a fundraiser for the Scleroderma Foundation. The team has raised nearly $2,000 combined in the first two years they have held the fundraiser.
This year’s Scleroderma Foundation will be held Saturday, April 30 when the softball team faces Luna Community College. First pitch for the game is 2 p.m. at Volunteer Field.
All proceeds from the concession stand, gate admission and the T-shirt auction will go to the Scleroderma Foundation. The softball team will also accept other donations to help the Scleroderma Foundation.
WNCC softball coach Maria Winn-Ratliff started the special day to bring awareness to the skin disorder, which affects about 300,000 people in the United States. The event was started because of former Cougar softball player Brenda Hearn who had to give up playing the sport because of the disorder during her freshman year at WNCC in 2008. Hearn remained at WNCC as a student manager and is now a student manager for the softball program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Individuals can start bidding on the T-shirts starting Wednesday, April 20. Bidding closes on April 30 at 12 noon. Pictures of the players with their special Scleroderma T-shirts, which they will wear during the game, are on the WNCC sports website located at sports.wncc.edu. The bid history will also be listed on the website.
Individuals who want to bid on the T-shirts may send a text or email to Mark Rein at 308-631-0459 or mrein@wncc.net, or assistant coach Molly Bonuchi at 308-641-6520 or bonuchim@wncc.edu.
Winners of the T-shirts have one week after the closing of the auction to pay for the T-shirts. After that time the second highest bid will be awarded the T-shirt.
Individuals, businesses or organizations that would like donate or help with the Scleroderma Day may contact softball coach Maria Winn-Ratliff at 308-672-5880 or winnm@wncc.net.
