WNCC softball puts up 29 runs, Cappuccilli hits for the cycle


                LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Jacqui Cappuccilli hit for the cycle in game one and the Western Nebraska Community College softball team swept the University of Wyoming Club team in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Laramie, Wyo.
               Cappuccilli had one of her best games in the opener, finishing with six runs and eight RBIs in leading the Cougars to a 29-4 victory. In game two, Amanda Jones and Aria Agle combined for a -hitter in the Cougars 14-2 win.
               WNCC goes to 40-11 on the season with the two victories and will next be in action Wednesday when they travel to Spearfish, S.D., to face Black Hills State University.
               The first game, however, was an offensive hitting attack for the Cougars. WNCC finished the game with 25 hits and 29 runs, including six extra base hits.
               Cappuccilli's performance at the plate was magnificent. The sophomore from MIdway, Utah, finished the contest going 6-for-6 with three singles, a double, a triple and a home run to go along with her six runs scored and eight RBIs.
               Cappuccilli started her hitting spree with a first-inning triple that scored Sarah Hawryluk with the opening run of the game. Later in the inning, Bree Bitton had a run-scoring triple to right field for a 3-0 lead.
               In the second inning, Cappuccilli delivered a 2-run-scoriong single. She then came in to score on a run-scoring single by Jordan Schoepflin to lead 6-0.
               Wyoming came back to cut the deficit to 6-4 with four runs in the bottom of the second on three hits. WNCC answered back in the third, scoring five times. Cappuccilli had one of the big hits in the inning with a 2-run inside the park home run. The other big hit was a run-scoring triple by Mariah Faifer.
               WNCC went up 12-4 with a single run in the fourth inning as Agle led off with a double and scored on a single by Faifer.
               The fifth inning was where the Cougars opened up the offense, scoirng 17 runs on 15 hits. Cappuccilli, who went to the plate three times in the inning, started the out-pouring of runs with a double. She also had two run-scoring singles in the inning.
               The Cougars had seven players finish with more than two hits. After Cappuccilli's 6-for-6 performance. Faifer and Bree Bitton each went 3-for-4. Bitton had a triple, three runs scored and a RBI, while Faifer had a trible, four runs scored, four RBIs and a walk.
               Hawryluk, Schoepflin and Agle all went 3-for-5 in the contest. Hawryluk had three singles, four runs scord and two RBIs, while Schoepflin had three singles, five RBIs and a run scored.  Agle had three singles, three runs scored and two RBIs.
               Jocelyn Stubbs also had two hits, going 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
               Ashtyn Hughes picked up the win, going three innings and allowing four runs, four hits and striking out six. Sarah Ward-Hadden pitched the final two innings, striking out three and allowing two hits.
               WNCC was just as explosive in the second game, scoring 14 runs on 15 hits. WNCC started things with two runs in the first and then went up 6-0 with a 4-run second inning. Megan Bourdon started the second with a 2-out triple that was followed by Hawryluk earning a walk and Cappuccilli getting a run=-scoring single. Stubbs then came up with a 250-foot inside-the-park home run.
               The Cougars went up 12-0 with six runs in the third on six hits. Faifer started the inning with a double followed by a walk by Chelsi Townsend. Then, with two outs, Hawryluk singled and Cappuccilli came through with a triple down the third base line.
               WNCC was shut out in the fourth inning and then added two runs in the fifth. Schoepflin led off with a triple to rightfield and scored on a Bitton sacrifice fly. Townsend later singled and scored on a Bourdon single.
               Wyoming scored both it's runs in the fifth. A sharp single to right field, the only hit of the game, started the inning
               Jones picked up the win in going three innings and striking out three and allowing just one runner via an error. Agle finished off the game, going two innings and allowing a hit and striking out three.
               WNCC finished with 15 hits as five players collecting multiple hits. Stubbs paced the team, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. Cappuccilli, Bitton and Faifer all went 2-for-3, while Hawryluk went 2-for-4. Cappucilli had a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
