WNCC baseball falls to Colorado State

FT. COLLINS, Colo. -- The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team out-hit Colorado State 14-10, but on the short-end of the 9-inning contest, falling 11-7 Tuesday night in Ft.Collins, Colo.
               The CSU Rams scored five times in the eighth inning to overcome a WNCC 7-6 lead in the seventh inning to get the victory despite home runs by Rainer Tiel and Jake Peltz.
               Colorado State took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning only to watch WNCC bounce back to grab a 6-3 lead with a five-run fourth.
               WNCC's big inning was highlighted by home runs by Rainer Tiel and Alliance's Jake Peltz. Tiel's was a 2-run shot, while Peltz' was a solo shot. WNCC continued excelling offensively as Camilo Baldelomar, Paul Singh and Reiner Alambarry all singled.
               The Rams fought back to tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning before WNCC scored a single run in the seventh for a 7-6 lead. Alambarry stared things with a double and scored on a passed ball. WNCC had an opportunity for more runs, but left runners stranded in scoring position.
               The lead didn't hold up as Colorado scored five times in the eighth on four hits, one error and four free passes to earn the win.
               WNCC had four players finish with two or more hits. Peltz, the Alliance graduate, paced the Cougars by going 3-for-3 with a home run and a run scored. Alambarry went 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI, while Jake Vore went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and run scored.
               Camilo Baldelomar finished with a 2-for-5 game. Kevin Stanford led the team in runs scored with two, including a double.
               Bravard took the loss on the mound as five different pitchers threw.
               WNCC, 11-20, will look to get back on the winning track today [Wednesday] when they travel to face Northeastern Junior College in a Empire Conference game in Sterling, Colo.
