Two of the top-ranked
volleyball programs in Nebraska will play an exhibition match on Thursday,
March 28 at Sutherland High School. The match starts at 5 p.m. (MST) and is
free and open to the public. Concessions will be available for purchase.
The Cougars finished last season with a 40-3 record and a
runner-up finish at the national tournament. WNCC has won national titles in
2007 and 2010> WNCC has been to the national tournament every year since
1999.
The Cougars have a seasoned team that will play including
the two freshman setters Luiza Martins, who earned NJCAA All-American status
last November, and Gering High graduate Morgan Broussard.
The team also has will feature freshman Allora Tanner, Lindsay
Wehkamp, Priscila Mendes, Kasey Lafitaga, Yoro Tovar, and Lauren Knoz, and
sophomores Megan Johnson, Alex Rivera, Kat Agson, Tasha Meyer, and Taylor
VanderWerff.
The Lopers have made 14 consecutive NCAA Division II
appearances, finishing last fall at 35-3 and final national ranking of third.
Among the Lopers returners in 2013 include junior Liz
McGowan of Grand Island Central Catholic, who earned 2012 first team
all-American honors, and junior Katie Sokolowski of Kearney Catholic, who was a
2012 all-region selection.
