WNCC softball team splits with Western Texas

               [March 3, 2013]  BORGER, Texas  – Kasey Cash hit three home runs, including a grand slam as the Western Nebraska Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Western Texas College on Sunday in Borger, Texas.

                Cash had three home runs and seven RBIs in the Cougar’s 13-0 second=game win against Western Texas. In the first game, the Cougars had just one hit in falling to WTC 2-0.

                In the second-game offensive explosion, it didn’t take long for the Cougars to ignite the offense. After two walks and singles by Bianca Duran and Jennifer Cottle, Cash ripped a grand slam to put the Cougars up 5-0.

                Cash, who hit seven home runs in the last six games this weekend, launched two more home runs in her three at bats. Cash had a solo shot in the third and then hit a 2-run homer in the fourth. All three home runs went out of the park in relatively the same spot.

                The Cougars also got a solo home run from Nicole Weis in the fourth inning.

                WNCC pounded out 15 hits in the win. Cash was 3-for-3 with three home runs, nine RBIs, and three runs scored.

                Also collecting multiple hits was Angel Council going 3-for-3 with three runs scored; Kayla Romey getting two singles; and Duran going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

                Ravae Herrera picked up the win in the circle, allowing no runs on five hits.

                In the first game, Western Texas shut down the Cougars’ offense to just a fifth inning double by Lindsey Shiels-Brophy.

                In the meantime, Duran was throwing well for the Cougars, allowing five hits and two runs, but suffered the loss. Western Texas scored the only runs they needed in the sixth inning. Duran, who had no-hitters on Friday against Lamar and Frank Phillips on Saturday, struck out seven in six innings of work.

                The Cougars, 14-3, will be back action Wednesday when they travel to North Platte Community College for a doubleheader.
