WNCC softball sweeps North Platte

                NORTH PLATTE – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team put up 29 runs and 26 hits in sweeping North Platte Community College in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon in North Platte.

                The Cougars’ offensive was definitely on fire in the second game as WNCC had three home runs and won 16-2. The first game was also all WNCC as they posted a 13-5 win to move to 15-3 on the season.

                WNCC will next be in action Thursday when they travel to Otero Junior College for a conference doubleheader.

                The second game saw the Cougars get home runs from Shelby McGraw, Lindsey Shiels-Brophy , and Kasey Cash. It was Cash’s eight home runs in the last eight games. She had seven over the weekend, including three in a contest against Western Texas on Sunday.

                Cash also went 3-for-3 in the game with three RBIs and four runs scored. Angel Council also had three hits in the contest, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a double. Shiels-Brophy and Danielle Hearn each had two hits in the contest. Hearn had three runs scored and two RBIs, while Shiels-Brophy had three RBIs, three runs scored and a home run.

                Ravae Herrera, who had two doubles at the plate, picked up the win in the pitching circle. Herrera went five innings in scattering eight hits and allowing two runs. She also struck out six and did not walk a batter.

                The first game saw the Cougars manage 12 hits, including six extra base hits.

                WNCC received home runs from Hearn and Nicole Weiss. Hearn also belted a triple to finish the game going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

                The Cougars also belted three doubles from Jennifer Cottle, Mariah Shepherd, and Shiels-Brophy.

                Also collecting multiple hits were Cottle with a 2-for-2 game with three runs scored and Shiels-Brophy with a 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

                Bianca Duran picked up the win, going five innings in striking out five, allowing five runs, and scattering eight hits.
