BORGER,
Texas -- Bianca Duran picked up two pitching wins, including another no-hitter
as teh Western Nebraska Community College softball team registered two wins
over Frank Phillips College Saturday afternoon.
Duran
tossed her second straight no-hitter in game one as the sophomore from
Westminster, Colo., struck out two in the 9-0 win. Duran also picked up the win
in game two with the Cougars pounding out 15 hits in the 10-1 win.
It
was the Cougars sixth straight win to push their record to 13-2.
Like
Friday in the two wins against Lamar, Saturday's win was highlighted by 21
hits, including three home runs, two from freshman Jennifer Cottle and one from
Duran.
In
the first game, WNCC scored six runs in the second inning on just two hits.
Danielle Hearn had a run-scoring single and Duran scored two runs on her 2-out
double for the 6-0 lead.
WNCC
added two more runs in the third. Cottle led off with a solo home run to
dead-centerfield before Hearn blasted a run-scoring double for the 8-0 lead.
The last run came in the fifth as Kayla Romey singled to score Hailee Mecham.
The
Cougars managed just six hits in the contest. Hearn was the only Cougar with
more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Lindsey
Shiels-Brophy and Mecham each scored two runs. Mecham earned three walks in the
contest.
WNCC
hit the ball with more authority in the second game, finishing with 15 hits.
WNCC wasted little time in cranking up the offense. Angel Council started
things with a single and then Duran blasted a homer to left field for a 2-0
lead. WNCC added two runs in the second with Council singling in Romey for one
run.
The
Cougars put the game away in the fourth inning, plating six runs on eight hits.
After two straight singles by Romey and Council, Duran had a run-scoring
double. WNCC kept excelling as Kasey Cash singled before Cottle had a 2-run
home run.
The
Cougars weren't through as Shiels-Brophy doubled and scored on a Mecham single
for the 10-0 lead.
Frank
Phillips only run came in the fifth inning. Duran was controlling the Frank
Phillips bats, having a perfect game going until the top of the fourth when she
gave up her first in 13 innings. Duran went 4 2/3 innings, giving up two walks
and one hits. Mecham finished off the game facing two batters.
Four
Cougars finished with multiple hits. Duran led the way with a 3-for-4 game with
a double, home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Also collecting multiple
hits was Romey with three singles and two runs scored; Council with three
singles, two RBIs, and two runs scored; and Kasey Cash with two singles and a
run scored.
WNCC,
13-2, will stay in Borger, Texas, as they face Western Texas College on Sunday.
