Five Cougars make all-Nebraska basketball team from Omaha World Herald

Five Western Nebraska Community College basketball players earned honors in the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska Junior College team, which was released on Monday.

WNCC men’s players Francisco Cruz and Geddes Robinson earned first team honors on the Men’s first team. Also garnering first-team honors was North Platte’s Joe Ragland, Northeast Nebraska’s Thomas Colbert, and McCook Community College’s Antonio Dye. Ragland, who led the Knights to the Region IX tournament and was chosen as the best small player at the national tournament.

Members of the men’s second team included Donald Jones and Shavontae Samuels of Central Community College, Chase Grabau and Karol Gruszecki of North Platte, and Marcus Landry of McCook.

On the women’s side, three Cougars earned first and second team honors. Yuki Morimoto and Stormye Everett were named to the women’s first team, along with Northeast Community College’s Dawn Bonnell and Sofie Lundberg, and North Platte’s Nancy Kirkendoll.

WNCC sophomore and Bayard graduate Amber Kistler was selected to the second team. Other second team members included Ivy Kuroki of North Platte, Elle Hiester of McCook, and Aujanee Armstrong and Laura Schroeder of Southeast.

Lundberg was named the honorary captain of the women’s team by averaging 15.8 points a game, while shooting 37 percent from the 3-point line.

WNCC players Tiffany Moorer, Shelby Campbell of Hemingford and Thais Pinto earned honorable mention honors on the team.
