WNCC women's basketball wins second game of the year

COLBY, Kan. -- The Western Nebraska Community College women’s basketball team evened its record to 2-2 in dropping Pratt Community College 71-48 in the first day of the Ambassador Classic in Colby, Kan.

The Cougars raced to a 34-17 halftime lead and never looked back.

Alison Cheney paced WNCC with 13 points, followed by Dana Iverson, Emma Beddome and Jenny Colwell with nine points each. Tawny Drexler, SeLina Ysac and Shaquilah Davis each pulled down six rebounds.

Ysac also led the team from the 3-point arc with a 2-for-3 shooting day.

Assistant coach Jennifer Pedersen said that the team played better defense then last week’s games in Williston, N.D. Still, she said, the team needs to be more consistent offensively, where they missed a lot of lay-ups on the day.

WNCC returns to action in the Colby Classic Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Colby Community College before facing Dodge City Community College Saturday at 2:30.
