WNCC women's basketball falls in overtime to Williston

WILLISTON, S.D. - The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the young season after suffering a 72-70 overtime setback to Williston State Friday evening in Williston, N.D.

After playing to a 68-68 tie at the conclusion of regulation, Williston took a 72-70 lead on a free throw with 5.5 seconds remaining in overtime. WNCC managed to get a desperation shot off before the buzzer sounded, but it was off the mark. The Cougars only mustered two points in the overtime period.

WNCC held two big leads in the game. The Cougars moved out to a 28-10 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half and also led by as many as 12 in the second half.

Carly Glisan knocked down five 3-pointers in the game for WNCC to lead the team in scoring with 15 points. Alison Cheney added 14 points for the Cougars and dished out four assists. Shaquilah Davis knocked down a pair of treys en route to finishing with nine points. Davis also pulled down six rebounds and had three steals.

Emma Beddome added eight points and five rebounds and Dana Iverson had six points and five rebounds. Also for WNCC in the game, Cheri Palmer had seven points, Jena Colwell scored six and Maggie Murtagh totaled five points.
WNCC led 35-31 at the half.

The Cougars will be back in action today at 1 p.m. against Lake Regions State.
