WNCC wins first match at regionals over Lamar

The WNCC women's volleyball team started the Region IX South Volleyball Tournament off on a good note with a 3-game sweep of Lamar Community College Friday morning. The Cougars won 30-7, 30-18, 30-20.

Stacie Meisner finished with a double-double in the match, finishing with 10 digs and 24 points. She also had five aces. Also for the Cougars, Jennifer Eichler led the way offensively with 15 kills. The 6-foot sophomore also finished with eight blocks.

Also for WNCC, Fatima Balza finished with five blocks, Shawntell Jones had eight blocks, 12 points and two aces, Kendra Schauermann had 12 digs, and Soriana Pacheco had 36 set assists.

WNCC will next take on Northeastern Junior College today at 5 p.m. at Trinidad, Colo., NJC won its first match 30-18, 30-19, 30-22 over Otero Junior College.
