WNCC to hold Scleroderma Day on April 28

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team will be holding its fourth annual Scleroderma Day on Saturday, April 28 when the Cougars host Garden City Community College at 2 p.m. at Volunteer Field in Scottsbluff.

The fundraising for the Scleroderma Foundation started four years ago when former Cougar softball player, Brenda Hearn, was diagnosed with the skin disease and had to give up playing the sport. Ever since, the WNCC softball team has set aside one day to help bring awareness to the disease.

Over the four years, over $3,000 has been donated to the Scleroderma Foundation from gate receipts, concessions and autographed T-shirt auctions.

This year the T-shirt auction will feature actual game jerseys. The jerseys that are being auctioned are the gold tops that were purchased in 2006 and have been worn by three WNCC Region IX championship teams.

Bidding on the jerseys is now underway with pictures of the players with their jerseys on the WNCC athletic website at sports.wncc.net. Individuals can place bids in one of three ways this year. They can either text or email Mark Rein at 308-631-0459 or mrein@wncc.net, or Molly Bonuchi at maldawg2@hotmail.com or 573-489-0484.

Bids can also be placed directly by liking the WNCC Scleroderma Shirt Auction page on Facebook. Once on that page, individuals can place their bid in the comment portion of the players’ photos. The bids will continually be updated on the page as well as the website.

The jersey auction closes on Saturday, April 28 at 3 p.m.
