COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jessica Aratani and Ajsa Zdovc combined for 46 points and the Western Nebraska Community College women’s basketball team rebounded from Thursday’s overtime loss to record a dominating 78-42 win over the Adams State junior varsity Friday at the Air Force Prep tournament.
Aratani, a Morrill graduate, ignited for 26 points in the win while Zdovc finished with 20 points. Zdovc also connected on two 3-pointers. Both were season highs for the two freshmen.
WNCC coach Dave Harnish said his team had the height advantage and worked the ball inside and Aratani and Zdovc, as well as ChaCha Ofoegbu connected. Ofoegbu finished with 11 points on the night.
The Cougars held a slim 36-23 lead at halftime. Harnish said that in the second half, his team played a lot better offensively, connecting for 42 second-half points. The Cougars also played well defensively as they held Adams State to just 19 second half points.
WNCC, 9-2, will finish off the Air Force Prep tournament with a contest against Murray State College. WNCC will then return home for four contests next week, beginning Tuesday against the Nebraska Technical College of Agriculture-Curtis team.
