COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s basketball team’s second half came up short as the Cougars fell 59-54 to Murray State College in the final day of the Air Force Prep tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.
WNCC coach Dave Harnish said that his team came out flat as Murray State ran to a 15-1 lead to open the game and held a 35-21 lead at intermission.
The Cougars, however, picked up the intensity in the second half, allowing Murray State just 24 points and slicing the lead to one point late, but the first half deficit was too much for his team to overcome.
“We had chances to get back in the contest,” Harnish said. “We played well in the second half.”
WNCC placed three players in double figures. Kelsey Doddridge and ChaCha Ofoegbu each finished with 12 points, while Idil Ozbayrak finished with 10 points.
WNCC went 1-2 in the tournament and Harnish said it was a disappointing weekend, but his team has a chance to come back when they host four games next week. The Cougars, 9-3, will host the Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture on Tuesday in a men’s and women’s doubleheader before hosting the Holiday Classic Thursday through Saturday.
