WNCC fall to Air Force Prep in overtime

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team dropped another overtime contest, this time to Air Force Prep 55-53 in the Air Force Prep Invitational Thursday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Cougars trailed 28-23 at halftime and both teams were knotted at 47-47 after regulation. Despite the loss, Dave Harnish was pleased with how hard they played against a good Prep team.
"We had chances to win," he said. "We did compete hard and we fought. They [Prep] are pretty good. They had one player make six threes, four in the first half."
The Cougars also were playing short as leading scorer Kyra Peterson did not play after suffering a mild knee injury in practice on Tuesday. In Peterson's place, sophomore Samantha Sanders lit up the scoreboard for 22 points. ChaCha Ofoegbu finished with nine points while Lisa Durden collected eight. Sanders also connected on three 3-pointers, while Durden had two.
WNCC, 8-2, will next play Adams State junior varsity Friday in the tournament before taking on Murray State College on Saturday.
Harnish said they just need to come out tougher tomorrow.
"We have to come out tomorrow and we need to play hard," he said. "We need to get after it."
