The No. 18 Cougars fell 1-0 to San Jac and had plenty of opportunities to score, but couldn't get the clutch hit when they needed in the second game of a doubleheader.
In the opener, Howard College no-hit the Cougars in registering a 7-0 win. The Cougars managed just two baserunners in the game, both by walks.
Ashton Hughes took the loss against Howard, going 2 1/3 innings while scattering nine hits and giving up six runs. Taylor Anderson finished out the game giving up a run on six hits.
WNCC rebounded from getting no-hit by batting the No. 9 team in the nation strong before falling 1-0. San Jac scored the only run they would need in the second from a walk, sacrifice bunt and a single.
The Cougars had their opportunity to put runs on the board, especially in the first inning. Allie Alverson and Jordan Schoepflin each recorded singles and Katie Groves earned a walk to load the bases with just one out, but they couldn't capitalize.
The Cougars also had singles by Hughes in the second and Groves in the third that didn't amount to a threat. The other big threat came in the sixth inning as Megan Bourdon delivered a 2-out double.
Anderson took the loss in pitching six innings with eight hits and five strikeouts.
The Cougars managed just five hits in the contest.
WNCC, 13-8, will look to rebounded Friday in the Central Arizona tournament. The Cougars will face Odessa College, Glendale Community College and Arizona Western.
