The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team won their second straight contest in impressive style, registering a 67-45 win against Colby Community College in the final day of the Colby Classic.
The No. 11 Cougars, who opened the season with a narrow 54-43 loss to No. 12 South Plains College, received a balanced scoring output, putting three players in double figures. Sophomores Tawny Drexler and Shaquilah Davis scored 12 points each, while freshman Stormye Everett had 11 points.
Michelle Lighthall also had a strong outing, leading the team in rebounding with eight, while also scoring six points. SeLina Ysac also pulled down seven rebounds, while Drexler had six.
Davis also chipped in five steals and four assists to go along her 12 points.
Assistant coacj Jennifer Pedersen said the team played really. well. In fact, the Cougars seemed to be in control for much of the game, holding a 36-25 halftime lead. WNCC was 77 percent from the free throw line and made 28 of 69 shots from the field.
WNCC, 2-1, will next be in action this weekend when they travel to the Air Force Prep Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.
