WNCC had four home runs in the 12-2 first-game win, before collecting 23 hits in a 21-6 in the nightcap.
The Cougars, 19-12, will continue its Columbus stay Friday and Saturday when they compete in the CCC-Columbus tournament. They will play Iowa Western Community College at 10 a.m., Southwestern Iowa at noon, and Southeast Nebraska at 4 p.m.
WNCC took control of the game early in game one, scoring a single run in the first inning and then went up 4-2 after three innings a 2-run home run by Jacqui Cappuccilli.
Brittany Chacon and Stephanie Townsend each had solo home runs in the fourth inning for a 6-2 lead. Katie Groves had the team’s fourth home run of the game with a 3-run shot in the sixth inning.
Groves and Adena Hagen each had three hits in the game. Groves had four RBIs and a double, while Hagen scored three runs.
Townsend went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI; Megan Bourdon went 2-for-2 with two runs scored; Cappuccilli went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two runs scored and two RBIs; Chacon went 2-for-4 with a home run; and Taylor Anderon went 1-for-1 with a double.
Anderson picked up the win from the circle, throwing three innings and giving up two hits. Townsend threw the final three innings, striking out two.
In the second game, the Cougars outhit the Raiders 23-9. The Cougars and CCC-Columbus were tied after the opening inning 2-2. WNCC went up 4-2 in the second and then put the game away in the third with eight runs. Anderson, Cappuccilli and Townsend all delivered singles to load the bases and then Hughes cleared the bases with one swing of the bat.
Jordan Schoepflin picked up the pitching win by throwing three innings by striking out two and allowing six hits.
Offensively, seven Cougars finished with multiple hits. Townsend went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs to pace the team. Groves finished 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs, while Cappuccilli went 3-for-3.
Bourdon finished the game going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and three RBIs; Hughes went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs; Hagen went 2-for-4 with four runs scored; and Megan Burditt went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
