MCCOOK -- THe WNCC men's basketball team remained perfect in the East Sub-region with an impressive 76-53 victory over McCook Community College Saturday evening in McCook.
In capturing thier 19th win of the season, the Cougars put four players in double figures and out-rebounded the hIndians 41-22. WNCC committed just 13 turnovers to go to 3-0 in the sub-region standings. McCook drops to 2-1 followed by North Platte at 1-2.
"We were ready to play and the game was really intense and physical, which it always is in McCook," WNCC coach Brian Joyce said. "We played even with them for the first 10 to 12 minutes of the first half and then we stretched it out to a bigger lead at halftime. We pushed the lead to 10 points in the second half and then the play go even more physical. Our guys did a good job holding their composure. McCook has some good guards that like to penetrate, and this was one of our best games overall in handling that penetration."
Francisco Cruz led the Cougars with 15 points, followed by Larry Brown with 13 and nine rebounds, Scott Bamforth with 12 points, and Danny Smith with 10 points and four steals.
WNCC (19-5) will next be in action on Tuesday when it travels to Casper College. WNCC will then host Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday at 8 p.m..
