POWELL, Wyo. - Flavia Siqueira, formerly the head volleyball coach at the College of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., has been hired for the same position at Northwest College.
Siqueira's 2007 CSW Mustangs finished third in the Red River Conference. They were ranked in the top 10 in their region.
"She's energetic, knowledgeable and will bring unique qualifications to Trapper volleyball," said NWC athletic director Jim Zeigler. "Flavia stood out from the pool of applicants. She was definitely our No. 1 choice. We're extremely happy that she's as excited about us as we are about her."
A Brazilian native, Siqueira was recruited to play collegiate volleyball in the United States by Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Neb. WNCC is a perennial contender at the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament, and during Siqueira's years there, WNCC finished third and fourth in the nation.
After graduating from WNCC, she transferred to the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., where she helped the Marauders to a national top 10 ranking for the first time in the school's history. The same year, the team won their conference and took second in their region.
Her playing achievements include All-American and Academic All-American honors, plus numerous all conference and all-regional designations earned at both WNCC and UM, where she earned her bachelor's degree in physical education.
Siqueira will begin her duties at NWC in early spring.
