ODESSA,
Texas -- The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team found the going
tough against Odessa College on Saturday.
The
Cougars were blanked 15-0 in game one before falling 9-2 in game two.
WNCC,
1-5, managed just three hits in the opening game as Odessa's Jhon Peralta was
in control from the beginning, striking out eight and walking two.
The
Cougars included a double by Ozzie Gonzalez and singles by Zach Ostergard and
Cameron Snyder.
Nick
Vanthillo took the loss on the mound, lasting just two innings in giving up 11
runs on eight hits and walking two. Felix Ojeda-Sanchez tossed the final two
innings, giving up four runs on four hits.
Game
two was a little better for the Cougars. Gering's Grant Rimington threw well in
the early stages before having a rough fourth inning. Odessa grabbed a 1-0 lead
after one before the Cougars came back to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth.
The
fourth-inning comeback all started with two outs. Snyder was hit by a pitch
followed by Gonzalez earning a walk. Alex Michaud followed with a double that
scored both runs for the 2-1 lead.
Odessa
came back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five times on two hits, two
errors and two walks for a 5-2 lead. Odessa plated three more in the fifth for
the 9-2 win.
WNCC
finished with four hits in the contest.
Gabriel DeLa Rosa led the way with a 2-for-3 game, including a stolen
base. Michaud had a double with two RBIs, while the other hit was a single from
Anthony Apodaca of Wheatland, Wyo.
Rimington
suffered the loss on the found, going five innings in allowing nine runs on six
hits. Rimington also struck out two and walked four. Jason Palser tossed the
final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
WNCC
will be back in action Sunday when they have another doubleheader with Odessa
College.
