[12/1/2012] COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Another powerful offensive display ignited the Western Nebraska Community College women’s basketball team to its 11th straight win to start the season during the final day of the Air Force Prep Tournament on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A day after piling up 91 points, the Cougars hit the 90-point mark again with a 90-36 win over Air Force Prep. WNCC is now 11-0 on the season.

“I thought we played real well,” WNCC coach Dave Harnish said. “We came out strong and were able to build a big lead early. Everyone was able to get into the game and I thought everyone contributed very well.”

The game was decided well before the first half ended as the Cougars moved out to a 46-15 advantage at intermission.

Ten different Cougars cracked the scoring column. Gritt Ryder led the way offensively with 20 points. Jess Samorodova added 18 points. Shalisa Moffit and Simone Evans both tallied nine points each, while Ashley Stevens finished with eight.

Lopsided victories have become a common theme for WNCC throughout the opening stretch of the season. Harnish said his young squad is progressing nicely and has earned its unbeaten record.

“We’ve played well enough to be 11-0,” Harnish said. “I think we’ve outplayed our opponent in every game and we’ve played with a lot of intensity night in and night out. By doing that, it’s got us to where we are at.”

WNCC will return home to host the Cougar Holiday Classic beginning Thursday. Following those three straight games, the Cougars will conclude the first-semester portion of their schedule on Dec. 11 playing at the Colorado Christian junior varsity.
