Baseball camp features 90 campers

The Western Nebraska Community College camp season kicked off today, June 1, with 90 boys taking part in the Cougar Baseball Camp at the 23 Club diamonds in Scottsbluff. It is the most players in attendance in the seven years the camp has been held.

The first day of camp went through fundamentals of throwing, fielding grounders, catching fly balls, batting and short games. The camp will focus on more aspects of the game the rest of the week. The camp runs through Thursday from 9-12 noon.

The camp is being conducted by WNCC coach Mike Jones, WNCC assistant coach Ryan Burgener, Gering junior legion baseball coach and WNCC athletic trainer Doug Jones, and WNCC and Gering players Elvis Garcia, Carlos Palamo and Ben Wolf.

Players still can attend the camp if they want on Tuesday.
