The WNCC Turf Challenge will feature teams of women’s doubles, coed doubles and coed four-player teams during the 2-day event. The Turf Challenge will take place at Lacy Park in Scottsbluff. The volleyball tournament is sponsored by Runza and Scottsbluff Screen-printing.
WNCC coach Giovana Melo got the idea from Arizona State University.
“We had one at ASU and it was a lot of fun so I just thought we could do the same here since our community loves volleyball,” Melo said. “I think it should be a lot of fun for the community. It is for the older crowd. High School players are not allowed to play unless they are 18 years old.”
The cost of the tournament will be $20 per person for the women’s coed, coed and the coed four-person division if registered by April 28. After that, the registration is $40. Also, if a player wants to play both days, the cost is $30 per person before April 28. Melo said women’s doubles and coed doubles will be held on Saturday, May 2, while the coed division will be held on Sunday, May 3.
Also, individual teams can bid on current Cougar players to be part of their team. Contact Melo via email (melog@wncc.net) if you would like to make a bid on a Cougar player. All bids start at $20.
“The teams will get a chance to play with and hang out with them all day if they win the bids,” Melo said.
