Kan. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team dropped a
doubleheader to Colby Community College on Tuesday in Colby, Kan.
The
Cougars fell in the first game 15-5 in five innings, before falling 7-6 in game
two.
The
second game was a battle. Each team had seven hits and just one extra base hit.
WNCC
led after two innings 5-3 after plating five runs in the second on three hits.
The Cougars couldn’t hold the lead as Colby added two in the fourth, and single
runs in the fifth and sixth.
WNCC
had their chances to tie or go ahead. In the sixth, Andy Padron and Dionisio Diaz
each reached base. Cameron Snyder then had a two-out double to score one, but
the Cougars left two stranded in scoring position.
Snyder
led the Cougars with a 2-for-4 attack with two RBIs and a double. The rest of
the hits were all singles.
Alexis
Vivas took the loss on the mound, gong 3 1/3 innings while giving up five hits,
four runs and striking out two. Cody Gifford also had two hits with three runs
scored in 2 2/3 innings.
In
the opener, WNCC managed just eight hits and gave up 16 hits. WNCC led 1-0 to
open the game, but fell behind the 8-ball early, giving up four first-inning
runs and six in the third for a 10-2 deficit.
Luis
Sotomayor and Anthony Apodaca each had two hits, a RBI, and a run scored.
Apodaca added a triple, while Gabriel DeLa Rosa and Mason Cratty each had
doubles.
Dylan
Michaels was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits in three innings
of work. Tyler Pollock also saw time on the mound, allowing six hits and five
runs.
WNCC
will next be in action this weekend when they travel to Lamar Community College
in Lamar, Colo.
