WNCC volleyball wins 27th game with sweep over Lamar

               LAMAR, Colo. -- The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team made quick work of Lamar Community College on Saturday afternoon, sweeping through the Lopes by scores of 25-8, 25-13, 25-6.
               The win pushes the top-ranked Cougars to 27-0 overall and 4-0 in the sub-region. The win was also the team's 19th straight sweep over an opponent.
               The Cougars played everyone in the contest and received fine performances from several individuals. Debora Araujo led the way with eight kills, six blocks and two aces. Also picking up eight kills as freshman Abbey Wade. Wade also had two aces.
               Also for the Cougars, Alex Rivera had nine kills, and Fernanda Goncalves had 16 assists and five aces.
               WNCC will next be in action Tuesday when they travel to face Eastern Wyoming College. After that, the Cougars will host Lamar, Otero, and Trinidad State next weekend. Saturday's contest against Trinidad will begin at 1 p.m. and will include the unveiling of the national championship banner.
