WNCC softball will hold Scleroderma Day on March 27

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team will hold Scleroderma Day on Saturday, March 27, when the Cougars take on Garden City Community College at Volunteer Field in Scottsbluff.

This is the second straight year that the Cougar softball team as held Scleroderma Day. Last year the team raised over $900 for the Foundation.

WNCC coach Maria Winn-Ratliff started the special day to bring awareness to the skin disorder, which affects about 300,000 people in the United States. The event was started in honor of Cougar softball player Brenda Hearn last year when she had to give up playing the sport because of the disorder. Hearn is in her second year as manager for the softball team.

First pitch for the softball doubleheader will be at 1 p.m. with all proceeds from the gate, concessions and T-shirt auction donated to the Scleroderma Foundation. Also, the softball team will accept other donations to help the Scleroderma Foundation.

Individuals can start bidding on the T-shirts on Saturday, March 20 through noon on March 27. Pictures of the players with their special Scleroderma T-shirts, which they will wear during the game, are on the WNCC sports website located at sports.wncc.edu. The bid history will also listed on the website.

Winners of the T-shirts have one week after the closing of the auction to pay for the T-shirts. After that time the second highest bid will be awarded the T-shirt.
